IMG_2421Last month, just a couple days after I returned to Canada after a 6 1/2 week vacation in Greece, I found myself traveling once again. I landed in Winnipeg, one of my favourite places to travel to do a Greek Supper Club.

This was my second time doing a dinner in Winnipeg with my friends at Olympia Diner. Mother and son owners Sia and Andrew welcome me like family and it’s great to travel to another city with a warm reception.

The dinner’s theme was Autumn in the Aegean and we gave our 70+ dinner guests a fish and seafood menu that would transport them to the Aegean.

First appetizer was the Greek olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Feta meze that Andrew plates up.IMG_2368

Next was the Santorini style tomato fritters with Tyrokafteri. IMG_2393

Here’s a daring appetizer but our guests loved it – squid ink risotto topped with braised calamari.IMG_2402

The final appetizer was steamed mussels with Ouzo, fennel and a hint of smoke. Great for dunking the housemade bread into the broth.IMG_2388

Up next was the soup course, cream of chickpea soup with a zesty garlic prawn.IMG_2409

Next up was broiled octopus on a bed of smoked red pepper puree.IMG_2412

Main course was a beauty…roast swordfish in a Savoro sauce with smashed baby Yukon potatoes.IMG_2421

Dessert? One of my faves and as you can see…we knock it out of the park – Ekmek Kataifi.IMG_2428

Thank you to the staff at Olympia Diner and the patrons who have now supported a total of three Greek Supper Clubs. I’ll be back next year with more great Greek food.
